September 2008Family Business Women 2008-09 program year began with a social and networking dinner, followed by a movie and guided discussion related to the many issues and interests that challenge today's women.

September 2008Nationally recognized UW Law Professor, Ralph Cagle, provided an interactive discussion on how to successfully negotiate challenges in a family business.

July 2008Howdy Holmes, President & CEO of Chelsea Mills, maker of “JIFFY” mixes, a market-share leader in retail prepared baking mixes, spoke about how he led the transformation of the 100 year old family business into the 21st Century.

july 2007Denis Collins, professor at Edgewood College, opened the 2007-08 program season with "Ethics: The Heart of a Family Business" on September 11. A live case study of a family business was discussed.

July, 2007 – Tailgate is a Summer Celebration of Families

july 2007At the 2007 Summer Tailgate, members, sponsors and guests took advantage of the warm weather by socializing on the Terrace of the UW Memorial Union and then listening to keynote speaker, Kim Hendricks, President of Mule Hide and VP of ABC Supply. Kim shared how the family business grew and the support provided by family members. UW MadHatters brought us back in time with musical memories.

May, 2007 – FBC Continues to Grow

may 2007During program breaks, members enjoy relationship building time. At the May program, a topic was presented that hit home to all business owning families—“The Importance of Being Lazy” presented by Al Gini of Loyola University.

March, 2007 – FBC Members Attend Ann Kinkade's Family Business Class

mar 2007Issues in Family Business Ownership, a UW General Business elective taught by FBC Director, Ann Kinkade, had a governance discussion. FBC member panelists, John Wall (DEMCO) and Tom Mohs (Placon Corporation), shared their family business board experience with students and guest FBC members.

mar 2006Conflict and poor communication skills are inevitable in every family business. Peter and Susan Glaser, Glaser & Associates, Inc., added humor to their presentation on how to develop skills to solve problems and strengthen relationships.

jan 2007Decision-Making and Succession Planning was presented by Victoria Husted Medvec, Kellogg School of Management in a highly interactive session. Strategies to overcome common biases that impede the quality decision process were highlighted.

sept 2006FBC's 10th anniversary year began with a celebration dinner with keynote speaker, Helen Johnson-Leipold, Chairman & CEO of Johnson Outdoors and Johnson Financial Group. Helen shared ten reasons for their company success and showed film clips of her father, Sam Johnson, talking candidly about their family values. Pictures taken by Sam while traveling to seven continents were on display. Sam's wife, Gene Johnson, was available to personally sign the book, "Through His Eyes", displaying Sam's complete collection of photos.

sept 13 2005Family Business Women met at Wisconsin Aviation Center and learned about the Center's history, growth and benefits of business flying. Diane Ballweg, Endres Manufacturing, provided rides in her plane after the meeting.

July 20 2005 Dick Leinenkugel, VP of Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co., talked about the history of his 5th generation family brewing business. Of course, there were six different Leinies to enjoy! Also "on tap" was Tom Krzystof, who surprised us with his clever magic tricks.
