    Allen Gates


    Allen B. Gates is an instructor of project management and Six Sigma at Wisconsin School of Business Executive Education. His work experience, spanning more than 45 years, includes industry, government, and academia.

    His academic experience includes professor and chair of mechanical engineering and assistant director of the Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy at the University of Nevada-Reno as well as adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and St. Mary’s University. He has taught courses in project management, systems engineering, thermodynamics, Six Sigma, manufacturing system design and simulation, management of innovation and technology, design of experiments, cost management, management of information technology, and contracting and negotiating fundamentals.

    Allen is currently president of Renaissance Consulting. His past professional experience includes system engineer, project manager, and line manager at the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, California; long-range planning manager, project manager, advanced technology director, electro-optics vice president, vice president technical affairs, and senior vice president engineering at Ford Aerospace; president at Kaiser Electronics; president at Gradient Technology; vice president, programs and vice president, manufacturing at General Dynamics Information Systems; and partner at Dannemiller Tyson Associates. He was an artillery officer in the U.S. Army with the rank of captain and commanded an M109 howitzer battery.

    His educational credentials include BSME and MSME from the University of Nevada-Reno, SM in management from MIT, and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Case-Western Reserve University.

    He was a naval fellow while studying for his Ph.D. and a Sloan fellow while studying for his SM in management. He was awarded the Naval Weapons Center Technical Director’s Award. He is listed in various Who’s Who volumes and holds a Professional Achievement Award and the James Scrugham Medal given by the University of Nevada-Reno. He is a co-author of two books: Whole Scale Change: Unleashing the Magic in Organizations and Whole Scale Change Toolkit.
