    John Gentle


    After serving as an Army Armor officer, John Gentle was employed by International Harvester Credit Corporation and in 1971 began his 35-year career at Owens Corning included these work experiences:

    Distribution center administrative manager;division warehouse manager; project manager for materials management (DRP) and warehouse management system (WMS) projects; transportation manager and global leader for carrier relation; global leader for processes and transportation affairs.

    Gentle holds two U.S. patents; is the past chairman of the Highway Committee of the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL); is a member of the National Transportation Research Board (TRB) Size and Weight Committee; and has been designated a “Distinguished Logistics Professional” (DLP) by the American Society of Transportation and Logistics and a “Logistics Rainmaker” by DC Velocity magazine. He pioneered Owens Corning’s carrier internet web portal.

    Gentle is well known for having created unique methods for reviewing carrier performance, recognizing carrier performance, and collaboratively seeking carrier input through his three carrier councils. He is quoted in Traffic World, Transport Topics, Purchasing, Inbound Logistics, and the Wall Street Journal, and has been a speaker/panelist at conferences for the National Industrial Transportation Association; Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals; Intermodal Association North America; American Trucking Association, Truckload Carrier Association; Transportation Intermediaries Association; Southern Motor Conference; Georgia Motor Truck Association; and the International Bridge, Tunnel, Toll Road Association.

    Gentle formed his supply chain consulting company immediately after his retirement from Owens Corning. The company provides consulting services for shippers, broker, and carriers.
