Joe Goss

Joe Goss is a senior business analyst and project manager at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Information Technology (DoIT). He reduces project costs for customers and improves project outcomes by facilitating stakeholder engagement in eliciting, validating, and documenting requirements. He serves as a trusted advisor to customers and peers in business analysis, solution design, and process improvement. Joe has many years of experience as a group facilitator, teacher, mentor, leader, and valued advisor.

Joe began designing and developing systems to help people in 1978. Since starting work on campus in 2004, he has improved DoIT’s effectiveness in project management, business analysis, and testing. He continues to mentor and support staff interested in a career in business analysis and project management.

Joe’s background includes significant work in providing solutions to public and private organizations, in sectors including agriculture, accounting, manufacturing, public housing, law enforcement, judicial courts, public health, and natural resources. He served clients while employed at several software development companies, a regional accounting and consulting firm, an international computer vendor, and as an independent consultant.

In recent work, Joe provided business analysis services for two modules of the Human Resources System newly implemented by the University of Wisconsin System. He created the technical design for the Common Scholarship Application, a single place where all University of Wisconsin-Madison undergraduates find matching scholarships and apply online. He is currently facilitating a diverse group of stakeholders in developing requirements for a campus-wide software inventory system. Joe is also advising teams on process improvement efforts and collaborating with campus leaders in developing a virtual business analysis center of practice.
