“The outstanding instructors who led the ‘Leadership and Supervisory Skills’ course provided me with a ton of useful knowledge that I can definitely use in my role as a first-line supervisor. My newfound skills have inspired me to begin work on a profile of my staff — I’ll use this as a tool to assess potential new employees and ensure a proper fit in our environment. I can’t wait to go to the next Basic Management class to see what else I can learn!”

“I have nothing but good things to say about the Basic Management certificate program. I especially enjoyed the intense learning of the five-day ‘Leadership and Supervisory Skills, Units 1 and 2’ course — my classmates and I were challenged every minute! The information was easy to integrate into my everyday work life, and I found doing this right after the course built on the concepts I learned — in fact, I put my new coaching/feedback skills into action immediately.
All of the courses within this program were fantastic, and I’m proud to have earned my Basic Management certificate from such a respected school. I hope to come back soon to start the Mid-Management Development program.”

“The five-day ‘Leadership and Supervisory Skills, Units 1 and 2’ course I just completed was one of the better sessions I’ve taken throughout my career. It taught me how to be a better listener while trying to focus on tasks rather than emotions in order to get the job done.”

“When I found UW-Madison Executive Education, I was looking for an entry-level management course from which to build an educational foundation. Having been a manager for several years and wanting to further my education in complement of occupational growth, UW-Madison seemed like a great fit — not only was it close in proximity, but it offered an excellent reputation as well.
I’ve now taken all four of the Basic Management courses and consequently earned my certificate. There are not enough positive words to explain my entire experience; it vastly exceeded my expectations. I learned a great deal about conflict resolution, negotiation and preparation before undertaking key interactions with employees; as a result, I am doing much less ‘shooting from the hip’ these days.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the ability of the instructors to draw the entire class into participation. Group learning is hard to facilitate, and during these courses, it was executed time and time again. Bob Shaver has an extraordinary gift — not only is he an exceptional facilitator, but he excels in identifying and coaching additional instructors to provide such an atmosphere.
The idea of pursuing the next level of UW-Madison’s management courses — Mid-Management Development — interests and excites me…I’ll be back soon!”
