Program Director: Basic Management


Bob is a faculty associate with Executive Education, a continuing education unit of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Business.

 

Prior to his academic appointment in 1990, Bob had more than twenty years of non-academic work experience in many areas, including: automotive repair, construction, naval engineering, nursing homes, consumer and real-estate lending, and state governance. In these areas, he had nearly ten years of managerial experience as a first-line supervisor, middle manager and senior manager.

 

As the director of the Basic Management program, Bob is responsible for the program content, staffing, marketing and leadership of an adult education/outreach series that serves about 400 new supervisors and managers each year.

 

In addition to the public, open-enrollment programs, Bob regularly works with companies and conference planners to design and deliver fully integrated, customized, in-house training programs.

 

During the last 15 years, Bob has instructed/facilitated more than 900 diverse audiences for the University and more than 135 different companies and industry groups.

 

He has earned his reputation as an engaging instructor and effective group facilitator who is committed to the transfer of learning and the program’s success.

 

As an instructor, Bob is responsible for the development and delivery of training in several subject areas: coaching, creativity, customer satisfaction, emotional intelligence, instructional skills for new trainers, leadership, managing large scale organizational change, motivation, performance management, problem solving and decision making, survey design, and transitions to leadership.

 

Bob received his bachelor’s degree in communication, economics and business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and his M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

 

In addition, Bob has completed continuing education and training in several adult education models, including: Dynamic Accelerated Learning (DALS), Bob Pike’s Creative Training Techniques, large-scale organizational change, outward-bound (experiential learning models), the Six Seconds model of Emotional Intelligence and the University Associates Instructors Skills program.
