Chart Your Own Course
Real-world solutions don’t always fit a cookie-cutter template, and there is rarely one solution to all problems. That’s why the University of Wisconsin-Madison Executive Education unit offers you educational choices that fit both your schedule and your unique needs. While it is always possible to take an individual course at any time, some prefer to focus on a body of knowledge available only from a unique or specifically-designed series of courses and educational options. We have established two categories: (1) Professional Development Certificates and (2) Master Practitioner Designations.
Professional Development Certificates
For several decades, we have refined course offerings in 12 different areas to provide the essential information required for success in a specific business discipline. Each of the following areas awards a Professional Development Certificate after completion of required and elective courses. Please visit each individual page to view program area-specific requirements and fees.
Custom Certificates
In addition to the standard Professional Development Certificate listed at left, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Executive Education unit works with individuals, companies and associations to define specialized certificates that fit their needs. These custom certificate options require the completion of six courses from a minimum of two different business disciplines. A faculty sponsor helps you create the certificate that fits your specific needs. Contact Maitri Meyer at mmeyer@exed.wisc.edu or 608-441-7317 for more information on these custom certificates.
Master Practitioner Designation
The highest designation we offer is the Master Practitioner status. Four criteria must be met: (a) an earned University of Wisconsin-Madison Professional Development Certificate, (b) select coursework, (c) a minimum of five years of experience in the designated field, and (d) completion of a corporate-sponsored project in the specific field of endeavor. The faculty mentor’s fee for the project is $1,000.

Why Certificates and Designations Matter
Professional development benefits both the organization and the individual. Today’s constant change and challenges demand that you continually improve and broaden your knowledge, skills and the personal qualities required in your professional life.
With the job market getting tighter, it’s important for individuals to seek out potential areas of competitive advantage. And with hyper-competition in the business arena, it’s imperative that firms continually upgrade the learning and skill sets of employees. The certificates and designations accomplish both by presenting a comprehensive body of knowledge in an applied manner, creating real-world skills that benefit both the employee and employer.
In addition, graduates are eligible to apply for a two-year membership in the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association. This entitles them access to the Wisconsin School of Business library and educational resources to continually build their tool kit, as well as all of the rights and privileges available to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Alumni Association members.
