Product Manager Imperatives
Day 1
The product manager’s role has become increasingly complex and varied. We’ll start our session with a big-picture understanding of typical responsibilities, as well as effective ways to analyze your current product and service offerings.
The structure of product/service management
- Explore typical career paths to product management
- Examine levels of responsibility
- Define activities/tasks of product managers
Product/service portfolio analysis
- Develop a planning framework
- Analyze product growth strategies
- Define product rationalization considerations
- Examine revitalization efforts
Day 2
During our second day, we’ll continue our holistic approach to product management with a discussion of the new product development process, the importance of strategy and how to successfully integrate customers, co-workers and sales in your efforts.
New product responsibilities
- Conduct pre-development research
- Monitor the development process
- Plan the launch
The product manager as business manager
- Link product strategy and corporate strategy
- Gather, evaluate and utilize business intelligence
- Apply business management skills to a case study
Executing customer solutions: working with field sales and product support
- Identify what sales and product managers need from each other
- Explore the major pitfalls of new product training
- Assure appropriate follow-up service
