Edward Marien
Ed Marien is professor emeritus of the transportation and logistics program for the Executive Education department within the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW). He holds degrees from Indiana University (MBA) and Michigan State University (Ph.D., Marketing and Logistics).
His present instructional activities at the UW include a wide offering of non-credit, continuing educational courses for industry practitioners from manufacturers, distributors, retailers, carriers and third-party service providers in consumer and industrial market segments.
Ed has been employed directly in industry and consults extensively with industry professionals. He has consulted with organizations on supply chain/logistics/transportation, economics and business planning. He has assisted information technology firms in strategic planning and concept implementation. He has also assisted suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and carriers in negotiations, in operations improvement tactics, and in implementing supply chain management initiatives. He emphasizes the use of process improvement models along with practical tips and techniques for clients to build trading partner relationships.
Fred T. Elsberry
Fred is president of the Metro Atlanta Better Business Bureau. Retired from Delta Air Lines, Fred is an assistant professor of aviation at Georgia State University’s School of Public Affairs and Urban Studies. Fred has almost 30 years of experience in dealing with domestic and international air cargo liability and claims. He will discuss the historical and current state of liability in the aviation industry, settlement concepts, laws and principles targeted toward the quality movement of air cargo. Fred has served several universities as an instructor and advisor, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also a regional editor for the Certified Claims Professional Accreditation Council (CCPAC) and annual seminar leader for the Air Transport Association’s Freight Claims Seminar.
Jim Hicks
Jim is founder and president of Progeny Claim Service, a company focused on total freight claim management consisting of processing and filing for recovery of loss related to damage, shortage, theft or accidents with transportation or insurance carriers and consulting in the field of damage prevention. Jim’s experience includes the rail industry and the food industry, the latter where he spent 27 years with the Quaker Oats Company in a variety of supply chain and distribution operation management positions. He is former senior manager of Unsaleables, a past chairman of the GMA-FMI Unsaleables committee and former member of the National Task Force on Feeding the Hungry.
Daniel C. Sullivan
Dan Sullivan is an attorney and partner with the law offices of Sullivan, Hincks & Conway in Oak Brook, IL. A popular speaker for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Executive Education, he is a straight-talking attorney who tells law like it is in layperson’s terms. Dan has represented shippers and carriers for over 25 years and has direct experience in today’s transportation. Dan has established legal pricing systems and directly negotiated contracts with railroads, motor carriers and shippers in providing rail, intermodal and related truck services. He points out the kind of transportation and business law that firms need to know today to be “legal.”
The University of Wisconsin–Madison, as a member of the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA), authorizes this course for 1.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or 14 hours.
